ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to sell 2 LNG power plants in June under pressure from the IMF.
The government, under pressure from the IMF, sent a plan for privatization of LNG power plants to the IMF, according to which it has decided to sell two high-performance power plants in June.
Sources said that the IMF has demanded immediate privatization of LNG power plants and said that both the power plants should be sold by the end of June 2022.
At the request of the IMF, the Privatization Commission also started work on the privatization of LNG power plants.
It may be recalled that Haveli Bahadur Shah and Blocki are power plants generating electricity at full capacity. Both the power plants were installed during the PML-N era. Regarding their sale, the IMF has suggested that privatization of high-performance power plants would fetch a good price.
Sources said that both the power plants are capable of generating electricity on dual fuels. Due to shortage of LNG, power plants can generate electricity from diesel. Privatization of power plants is likely to increase the cost of power generation.
