Kiev: Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Russia is not afraid of recognizing the two states as independent states and sending troops there.

According to the International News Agency, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, in his address to the nation, said that they want clear support from the Western countries on Russia's aggression and now it will be known who is actually a friend of Ukraine.

"We are not intimidated by the recognition of Russia's rebel-held provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk as independent states and the deployment of troops there," Vladimir Zelensky said. They know how to defend themselves very well.

Western leaders, including Britain, have criticized the Russian president's move, assuring Ukraine of all possible help, while the US president is likely to impose economic sanctions on Luhansk and Donetsk.

Canada, Britain, France and Germany have also condemned the Russian president's decision to recognize separatist-held territory, warning that the move is a threat to peace in the region.
