BEIJING: Yutu2, an automated vehicle sent to the opposite side of the moon, has discovered semi-transparent glass bullets in the moon's soil that resemble quartz pens found on Earth.
Explain that under unusual circumstances, ordinary sand, along with some other minerals, turns into glass.
Glass has been discovered on the moon in past space missions, but this is the first time that fragments of glass, such as translucent bullets, have been found there.
The moon revolves around the earth in such a way that one side of it is always towards the earth and the other is opposite to the earth which we cannot see from the earth. This condition is called "tidal lock".
How will the semi-transparent spheres of glass be formed on the opposite side of the moon? Experts do not currently have the answer to this question.
However, Chinese experts speculate that perhaps about four billion years ago today, when the moon was "young", volcanoes were constantly erupting lava and a large number of asteroids were raining down on the moon. ۔
This process probably continued for the next several million years, and the meteorites collided with a glass-like substance on the moon to form these semi-transparent spheres of glass due to their intense heat and pressure.
China's Yutu 2 rover landed on the opposite side of the moon in 2019 while it was sent to work for only three months.
However, it is still in operation and has the distinction of being the first rover to land on the opposite side of the moon, as well as the longest-running machine.
Last month, the Yutu 2 rover discovered that the soil on the opposite side of the moon, although dry, still had a sticky, mud-like property.
It was not long before the same rover surprised us with a new discovery.
Despite knowing a lot about the origin of the sun, solar system, earth and moon, etc., many things about it are still unknown to us.
The "Yutu 2" lunar journey continues to this day, and scientists say that if a large number of semi-transparent glass bullets were discovered from the moon, it would confirm the hypothesis of Chinese experts.
Apart from this, the need to send more automated rovers to the opposite side of the moon and collect more soil samples from there and bring them to the earth is also being felt more in the light of this discovery.
