According to the American media, a powerful explosion took place in New York's Times Square which spread fear and panic among the people and caused a stampede.
A preliminary police investigation said the blast was caused by gas in three gutters in the area. After the blast, fire broke out in all the three gutters. The fire brigade took timely action to control the fire.
