Lahore: Political crisis persists in Punjab and session of Provincial Assembly has been adjourned till April 16.

The Punjab Assembly was scheduled to meet on Wednesday, April 6, but now it will be held on April 16 at 11:30 pm. Approving the adjournment of the meeting, the Deputy Speaker has reconvened it on April 16.

The reason given for this decision is the sabotage that took place in the last meeting. According to assembly sources, the meeting was delayed to repair the damage in the house and lobby. Time is required for repair of damaged items for which meeting date has been extended.

This development has come at a time when Prime Minister Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Sheikh Rashid, Pervez Khattak, Shafqat Mehmood, Fawad Chaudhry, Hamad Azhar have reached Lahore from Islamabad today.

New Chief Minister could not be elected, Punjab Assembly session adjourned till April 6

Today in the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice had asked the Advocate General of Punjab to tell me whether there will be an election of Chief Minister in Punjab tomorrow or not. To this, Advocate General Punjab replied that the Speaker Punjab Assembly will fully abide by the Constitution. The meeting of Punjab Assembly will be held tomorrow at 11:30 am.

The Chief Justice directed that the election of the Chief Minister must be held in accordance with the Constitution.

It is to be noted that the opposition had filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Usman Bazdar on which he had resigned and a meeting of the Provincial Assembly was to be held on Sunday, April 3 in which Hamza Shahbaz and Pervez Elahi are contesting for the post of Chief Minister. On that day, the government had adjourned the session of the Provincial Assembly while the National Assembly itself had been dissolved.
